Aging Alone Hub

Independence doesn’t mean doing it without anyone. Build the support system around you.

What do you need right now?

Living alone comes with real questions most people aren’t asked directly. Pick where you are.

You’re not the only one asking these questions

Millions of people are navigating life without a built-in support system nearby. This Hub exists to help you build one on your own terms — not to assume something is wrong with not having one already.

You’re in the right place to build your support circle.

Support Circle Builder

Takes a few minutes. Nothing you enter here is saved or stored — this is for you to print or write down.

Someone who could act on your behalf quickly if needed

A person or service that would notice if something changed

Who you’d want making medical decisions if you couldn’t

At least one person should know this plan exists

This tool is meant to print or save on your own device. SynquUp does not collect or store what you write here.

You’re in the right place for staying connected and safe.

Staying Connected & Safe

Worried about becoming isolated?

Regular contact — even a short daily check-in — measurably reduces risk. Consider a call, a check-in app, or a neighbor arrangement.

Help with transportation

Losing easy transportation is one of the biggest isolation risks. Local senior transportation programs and rideshare options can help.

Worried about scams or fraud

Older adults living alone are frequently targeted. A few habits — never giving out information to unsolicited callers, verifying before acting — go a long way.

No nearby family?

A support circle doesn’t have to be family. Neighbors, friends, faith communities, and local aging-services programs can fill this role.

Fraud Warning Signs — Quick Checklist

If any of these are true, it’s reasonable to hang up and call a trusted person or the organization directly using a number you look up yourself — not one given to you on the call.

You’re in the right place for housing and home questions.

Planning for Future Care

A hard conversation to have early, not in a crisis.

Prepare for a hospitalization

What to have ready before you’d need it.

Plan for returning home

What support you’d need after a hospital stay.

Just discharged from a hospital stay? When you’re on your own, being proactive about your follow-up matters even more — there’s no one else in the room to confirm it for you. Before you leave, ask for the exact date and time of your follow-up, not just “the office will call.” Get a phone number to call to confirm. Taking this step yourself is one of the most effective things you can do for your own recovery. Our Recovery Support hub walks through the full 30-day plan.

You are not “being that patient.” Calling to follow up isn’t high-maintenance, and it isn’t taking something away from anyone else. It’s you participating in your own care — exactly what a good care team wants from you.

Aging Alone (book) + General Emergency Life Binder

Aging Alone is the education and guidance component — independence, support circles, safety, housing, and future planning. The General Emergency Life Binder is where you organize that information in one place.
